Why do we need lots of red blood cells? Because Red blood cells have the important job of picking up oxygen from the lungs and carrying oxygen to all of the other cells of the body. The cells of the body use oxygen as the fuel they need to do their jobs. Red blood cells also give you color. If your skin is white the red blood cells give you the pink color in your skin. That let you look healthy and young.

So, what are foods we need to have an increase in red blood cells? Here are foods you need:

FOODS RICH IN IRON Iron is a mineral used by the body in the production of red blood cells. It is used in the production of hemoglobin, which is the main protein in red blood cells. Hemoglobin carries oxygen throughout the body. Lack of iron in the diet leads to iron deficiency anemia. Sources of iron include red meat, organ meat such as kidney and livers, beans, lentils, dark green leafy vegetables.

FOODS RICH IN FOLIC ACID Folic acid is crucial for proper brain function and plays an important role in mental and emotional health. Folic acid also works closely with vitamin B12 to help make red blood cells and help iron work properly in the body. Folate can be found in green, leafy vegetables, beans and legumes, citrus fruits and enriched foods, such as breads and cereals. You can also take it as a supplement. 

FOODS RICH IN VITAMIN B-12 Vitamin B12, also known as cobalamin, help to make red blood cells, which carry oxygen in the blood. It is also essential to the normal health, development and functioning of your brain, nerves and other body parts. Vitamin B12 is also needed to make your DNA. It can be found in foods such as meat, fish, milk, cheese, poultry, eggs, dairy products and some fortified breakfast cereals.
